Threads are sorted by their "last_replied" timestamp in descending order (newest first). Here's how it works:
Each thread (Message with no parent) has a last_replied field that gets updated in two cases:
When the thread is first created (set to creation timestamp)
When someone replies to the thread (updated to the current time)
